Toward a Basis for Protocol Specification and Process Decomposition

چکیده
In a formalism of top-down design, we consider the decomposition of behavioral specications into interacting sequential components. The higher level of description speci es the operations to be performed in a major computation step. The goal is to incorporate a given interface speci cation in a lower-level speci cation that accounts for interactions with and among sequential components. This construction generalizes the earlier formalism of system factorization [14] to include interface protocols. It expands on the objectives of high-level synthesis by considering control-synchronization loops in scheduling. This paper presents a speci cation language for sequential process interaction and develops an interpretation based on nite-state-machines. Operations of minimization, composition and complementation are de ned; the last of these being the key to top-down decomposition. A small example is used to illustrate the ideas. Keyword Codes: B.4.3; B.4.4; F.3.1

متن کاملFunctionality Decomposition by Compositional Correstness Preserving Transformation
We present an algorithm for the decomposition of processes in a process algebraic framework. Decomposition, or the refinement of process substructure, is an important design principle in the top-down development of concurrent systems. In the approach that we follow the decomposition is based on a given partition of the actions of a system specification, such that for each partition class a subp...
متن کاملWeb Service Choreography Verification Using Z Formal Specification
Web Service Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL) describes and orchestrates the services interactions among multiple participants. WS-CDL verification is essential since the interactions would lead to mismatches. Existing works verify the messages ordering, the flow of messages, and the expected results from collaborations. In this paper, we present a Z specification of WS-CDL. Besides ve...
متن کاملA better way to design communication protocols
In this thesis a framework for the design of communication protocols is presented. It provides a theoretical foundation for an existing design method used in industry. The framework supports the specification of protocols as well as the generation of protocol interfaces. For the specification an appropriate formal design language is defined based on dataflow algebras. The language contains oper...

In this report we present an algorithm for the decomposition of a mono-lithic LOTOS process into two processes, which composed by the parallel operator is observational equivalent to the original one. Repeated application permits the generation of more than two processes. The algorithm is deened on labelled transition systems and, hence, its application to any process algebra with a similar not...
